How should ordering multiple tests be counted for Category 1 of the medical decision making (MDM) element Amount and/or Complexity of Data to be Reviewed and Analyzed? For example, if the physician orders a complete blood count (CBC), lipid panel, and glucose test during the same encounter, would this count as ordering three unique tests, and if so, would this meet the required number of items in Category 1 even if there were no review of prior notes and no review of results?
