Mononucleosis (infectious mononucleosis), commonly referred to as “mono,” is a viral infection most often caused by the Epstein–Barr virus (EBV). It is frequently seen in adolescents and young adults and is characterized by fatigue, fever, sore throat, and lymphadenopathy.
