Q&A: If endoscopic, code nerve transection as unlisted

Question: My spine surgeon wants to perform endoscopic medial branch transection. He was told by the device rep that it is coded as 64772. I said that is not correct because CPT 64772 is for an open approach and if this procedure is performed endoscopically it should be coded with the unlisted code 64999. Do you agree?  It is the only procedure being performed.
