Scheduled 5.1 percent decrease scrapped at the last minute On its way out the door, the 109th Congress left a nice gift for physicians and Medicare patients: It overturned the 5.1 percent reduction on Medicare payments that was supposed to take effect Jan. 1. The legislation will stop the cut to the conversion factor on Medicare physician payments in 2007. Instead, there will be a one-year update of 0 percent to the physician fee schedule.
