Later this year, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services starts an extended focus on vision rehab providers who are not necessarily occupational or physical therapists. CMS is launching a demonstration project to allow "vision rehabilitation professionals" to provide the same services to treat vision impairment that Medicare covers when provided by an occupational or physical therapist. When, and for how long? The Low Vision Rehabilitation Demonstration will start Oct. 1, and will last five years, according to May 6 Transmittal 23 (Change Request 3816).
