Reader Question: Change Your Epidural Injection Guidance Rules

Question: I have read that Medicare increased the fee schedule for 2015 so that imaging guidance is included in the epidural injection fee, which would mean fluoroscopy is not separately reportable. I would expect the CCI edits to reflect that 77003 is a component code of 62311, but have not seen such an edit. Our local carrier has an LCD stating that “The real-time imaging guidance, fluoroscopy or computed tomography, with the use of injectable radio-opaque contrast material is required for all steroid injections and all transforaminal injections.
