The following information is in response to many requests for assistance in coding admissions for radiotherapy:
When a patient is admitted solely for the purpose of radiotherapy for malignancy, assign code V58.0, Radiotherapy, as the principal diagnosis. The code for the specified neoplasm should be assigned as an additional diagnosis.
Example 1: A patient with recently resected breast cancer is seen for the administration of radiotherapy. Code as:
V58.0 Radiotherapy
174.9 Malignant neoplasm of female breast, unspecified
92.29 Other radiotherapeutic procedure
