Pressure Ulcer Stages
Effective October 1, 2008, a new subcategory (707.2) has been created to report pressure ulcer stages. Prior to this change, the ICD-9-CM classified pressure ulcers by site, but did not distinguish the stages. The new codes (707.20-707.25) do not specify the site of the ulcer. Therefore, the appropriate site of pressure ulcer code (707.00-707.09) should be assigned first.
