A patient at our facility was diagnosed with a branch retinal vein occlusion of the left eye. She underwent a pars plana vitrectomy. During the course of the procedure a limited arteriovenous manipulation was performed. According to the operative note “three arteriovenous crossing points were engaged with a flexible retinal pick which was used to loosen the adventitial sheath at the crossing points...” We were told that only the vitrectomy would be reported. Should we only report the vitrectomy or do we assign a code for both procedures? ...
