New Modifiers for Positron Emission Tomography (PET)

CMS has created 2 new PET modifiers for the reporting of initial and subsequent treatment of cancerous tumors. These modifiers became effective, April 6, 2009. The new PET modifiers are listed as follows: PI – Positron Emission Tomography (PET) or PET/Computed Tomography (CT) to inform the initial treatment strategy of tumors that are biopsy proven or strongly suspected of being cancerous based on other diagnostic testing.
