Proprietary Laboratory Analyses (PLA) codes effective January 1, 2018

Proprietary Laboratory Analyses (PLA) codes were created to identify tests belonging to specific laboratories or manufacturers. These PLA codes are alpha-numeric CPT® codes with a corresponding code descriptor utilized to facilitate accurate reporting of laboratory tests. These PLA codes describe proprietary clinical laboratory analyses provided by a single (sole-source) laboratory or licensed or marketed to multiple laboratories (e.g., cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
