Aortic Valve Surgery with Excision of Calcium Deposits

A patient with a previous aortic root replacement with a valved conduit presents with calcification surrounding the entire ascending aorta extending down into the ventricle, pulmonary artery and onto the pericardium. During surgery to replace the valved conduit in addition to replacing the ascending aorta with a Hemashield® graft and coronary bypass, the calcium was completely excised down to the level of the left ventricular outflow tract.
