As of October 1, 2010, the “excludes note†under code 799.82, which excluded coding signs and symptoms associated with a confirmed diagnosis of apparent life-threatening event in infant (ALTE) has been deleted.
Code 799.82, Apparent life-threatening event in infant, should be assigned as an additional code if the event is documented in the medical record. The code may be assigned as the principal diagnosis if no other diagnosis(es) is documented.
