Encounter for HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis

Miscellaneous Z codes capture a number of other health care encounters that do not fall into one of the other categories. Code Z29.81, Encounter for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis, has been created for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for individuals who do not have HIV but are at risk for contracting HIV. When taken as prescribed, PrEP is highly effective in reducing the chance of getting HIV from sex or injection drug use. Code Z29.89, Encounter for other specified prophylactic measures, was created for encounters to provide other specified prophylactic measures that are not classified elsewhere in ICD-10-CM. ...
