Major Aortopulmonary Collateral Arteries (MAPCA)

The patient presented to the cardiac catheterization lab for evaluation of their pulmonary hypertension and for occlusion of an aortopulmonary (AP) collateral artery. The patient has a history of Tetralogy of Fallot, ventricular septal defect, pulmonary atresia, major aortopulmonary collateral arteries (MAPCA), Mee (or Melbourne) shunt, pulmonary artery unifocalization and right ventricle to pulmonary artery conduit.After completion of the heart catheterization, angiography revealed AP collateral flow to several vessels, including the right thyrocervical trunk, the right subclavian artery, the left internal mammary artery and to the right lung. Microcatheter access was obtained into the AP collateral artery from the descending aorta. Using an MVP™ 3Q micro vascular plug system, coil embolization was performed to occlude the AP collateral vessel.
