In Coding Clinic, Third Quarter 2021, page 24, in addition to procedure codes for the tarsal fusion between the navicular and cuneiform, two tarsometatarsal (TMT) fusion codes were assigned for fusion with bone graft and internal fixation for the fusion between the first metatarsal and the medial cuneiform (Table 0SG). However, in the question narrative, fusions were also performed on the second and third tarsometatarsal joints. The second metatarsal was fused to the medial cuneiform and the third metatarsal was fused to the lateral cuneiform both with fixation and bone grafts. In this case, would ICD-10-PCS Guideline B3.2b apply and fusion codes assigned for the second and third TMT joint fusions in addition to the codes provided in the answer, since each TMT joint is a distinct anatomic body part? ...
