Palatoplasty with Intravelar Veloplasty
A patient with Veau II cleft palate was seen for a 2 flap palatoplasty with intravelar veloplasty. Medial and lateral incisions were made to expose the bony hard palate and greater palatine. The levator veli palatini muscles were dissected free and transposed 90 degrees and the nasal mucosa from the undersurface of the hard palate was mobilized up to the incisor foramen and closed. The intravelar veloplasty was performed by suturing the bilateral levator veli palatini muscles together. The palatal flaps were resuspended to the palatal mucosa near the incisor foramen.
