Pouchitis
Effective October 1, 2009, a new subcategory, 569.7, Complications of intestinal pouch, has been created and includes two new codes: 569.71, Pouchitis, and 569.79, Other complications of intestinal pouch. Pouchitis is a nonspecific inflammation of an internal ileoanal pouch, which has been created following removal of part of the colon. The ileoanal pouch eliminates the need to wear an external ostomy appliance.
