Repair of Bronchopleural Fistula Using Omental Pedicle Graft

A patient, who is status post right pneumonectomy, was admitted with a bronchopleural fistula. During surgery, an omental flap was used to repair the fistula at the level of the main bronchus. The omentum was mobilized from the transverse colon and the stomach and passed into the right hemithorax where it was used to cover the fistula. In ICD-10-PCS, the root operation “Transfer” is defined as moving without taking out, all or a portion of a body part to another location to take over the function of all or a portion of a body part, and appears to meet the objective of this surgery. However there is no “body part” to indicate that the transfer involved the omentum.
