December 2011 page 19 Coding Corrections Transoral Incisionless Fundoplasty The esophagogastric fundoplasty discussion in the June 2011 issue of CPT Assistant included a Coding Tip (page 10) that provided the following inadvertently misleading instruction. There is no specific CPT code for transoral incisionless fundoplasty (TIF). CPT code 43659, Unlisted laparoscopy procedure, stomach, should be reported. The coding tip was based on queries posed by readers pertaining to a hybrid approach involving an endoscopic procedure performed together with a laparoscopic hybrid procedure.
