April 2014 page 6 Coding Update: Psychiatry Changes for 2014 The Medicine/Psychiatry subsection (90785-90899) of the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) code set had many changes for 2013. For 2014, an instructional parenthetical note was added following code 90837, Psychotherapy, 60 minutes with patient and/or family member. The parenthetical indicates that face-to-face psychotherapy services of 90 minutes or longer that are not performed with an evaluation and management (E/M) service, may be reported with the appropriate prolonged services code (99354-99357) in addition to the psychotherapy services.
