Article Overview
This CPT Assistant clarification discusses dialysis service reporting in the context of end stage renal disease care. It explains the general structure of outpatient ESRD service reporting, the role of daily reporting when a month is interrupted, and the separate handling of dialysis procedures and inpatient evaluation and management services. The article is aimed at coders, billing staff, and clinicians who need to understand how the dialysis-related CPT framework is organized in this setting.
Why This Topic Matters
Dialysis cases often involve overlapping outpatient, inpatient, and procedure reporting, so clarifying the categories involved helps support accurate claim preparation and reduces confusion when care is interrupted during a month.
