What CPT code should be used to appropriately report a trabeculectomy with antibiotic injection in a patients right eye with moderate open-angle glaucoma? The patient had cataract extraction with intraocular lens (IOL) insertion performed on the same eye three years ago. The operative report for the trabeculectomy that was just performed did not mention scarring being encountered during the procedure. Would code 66170 be reported because scarring is not mentioned in the current operative report, or should code 66172 be reported because the patient has had prior cataract extraction with lens implantation in the same eye?
