2015 Salary survey: Look for a good doctor/coder balance

The average ratio of doctors to coders in anesthesia practices is 9:1. That is, for every nine doctors, the practice has one coder. Most of the respondents reported a better ratio and better salaries. Coders who work for organizations with one to four coders for every doctor averaged $57,959 last year. However some coders reported doctor/coder ratios that were far above average: 33 to 50 doctors for every coder, but the larger workload didn’t translate into larger paychecks. Coders at those organizations earned less than coders at more balanced organizations, an average of $53,500.
