Q&A: For RCR begun arthroscopically and converted to an open procedure, report open code
Question: The surgeon does arthroscopic repair of the suprascapularis and then does an open repair of the supraspinatus. They want to bill both 29827 for the arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and 23412 for the open RCR. The surgeon’s reasoning is that it’s two different tendons and two different areas of the shoulder, so that should support payment for two separate codes.
