Q&A: Scope or open RCR? The AMA takes a novel approach

Question: The surgeon did an arthroscopic repair of two rotator cuff tendons – the supraspinatus and infraspinatus – then did an open repair of a third tendon, the subscapularis, through a separate open incision. Would this be reported with both the arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (RCR) code 29827, as a mini-open RCR with CPT code 23412, or could both codes be reported?
