Code E70.81, Aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase deficiency, was created for aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase (AADC) deficiency, a rare inherited condition that affects the production of signals that allow cells in the nervous system to communicate with one another. The AADC enzyme takes part in the pathway that produces the neurotransmitters, dopamine and serotonin. Dopamine is responsible for cognitive function, voluntary movement, and emotions. Serotonin serves to regulate basal function, mood, sleep, memory and learning, body temperature, and cardiovascular and endocrine functions.
