Effective October 1, 2003, a new external cause of injury code has been created to report external constriction caused by hair (E928.4) and external constriction caused by other object (E928.5) Coding Clinic First Quarter 2003, page 13,described a case of hair strangulation of a toe. At the time of publication there was no E code available to describe the cause of the injury associated with hair strangulation.
