The most important change for this annual article is that the rules for using the V codes, first published in Coding Clinic for ICD-9-CM Fourth Quarter 1996, and updated annually thereafter, are now part of the official coding guidelines. This article will continue to be published each Fourth Quarter in Coding Clinic for ICD-9-CM to instruct coders on the new V codes that will become effective each October 1.
