Gestational Alloimmune Liver Disease

Code P78.84, Gestational alloimmune liver disease, has been created to describe gestational alloimmune liver disease (GALD). Previously, the ICD-10-CM did not have a specific code classification for GALD. GALD is a unique condition, which can present as severe hepatic injury/failure of the fetus and newborn. The onset is early, during fetal development. According to studies, sensitization of some women to a fetal liver antigen causes the development of specific antifetal liver IgG antibodies.
