Effective October 1, 2007, code 92.41 has been created to capture intra-operative electron radiation therapy (IOERT). Prior to this, code 92.25 did not distinguish between teleradiotherapy using electrons or intra-operative electron radiation therapy. With the advent of new technology, electron radiation therapy can be delivered during a surgical procedure using a mobile device. IOERT is a specialized intensive radiation treatment administered during surgery directly to the cancer tumor or tumor bed while normal tissues are displaced or protected.
