Effective October 1, 2004, new codes have been created to uniquely report laparoscopic gastroplasty (44.68); laparoscopic gastric restrictive procedure (44.95); laparoscopic revision of gastric restrictive procedure (44.96); laparoscopic removal of gastric restrictive device (44.97); and laparoscopic adjustment of size of adjustable gastric restrictive device (44.98). Laparoscopic gastroplasty includes gastric banding, silastic vertical banding, and vertical banded gastroplasty (VGB). This type of bariatric surgery involves stapling the stomach via laparoscope.
