IBC is classified in the new subcategory C50.A, Malignant inflammatory neoplasm of breast, with unique codes to identify laterality as follows: right breast (C50.A1), left breast (C50.A2), and unspecified breast (C50.A0). Malignant inflammatory neoplasm of breast is a distinct subtype of invasive cancer of the breast that accounts for 1% to 5% of all breast cancer in the United States.
