No-Scalpel Vasectomy (NSV)

A patient desiring permanent sterilization was brought to the operating room to have a no-scalpel vasectomy (NSV) performed. During the procedure, the skin was anesthetized, and the left vas deferens was pulled through the skin and localized between two fingers. A no scalpel clamp was used to enter the hemiscrotum and the vas deferens was grasped with the clamp. Dissection of the vas deferens from the surrounding tissues was performed and it was tied off twice on each side. The same procedure was repeated on the right side. A 1-inch segment was removed from each vas deferens, and the ends were cauterized and dropped back into the hemiscrotum. A simple stitch was used to close the opening.
