A 64-year-old patient status post right total knee arthroplasty (TKA) was admitted due to infection of the right knee. The knee was incised and drained. A stage 1 revision and complete synovectomy were then performed. The patient was diagnosed with right prosthetic joint infection with septic TKA due to Staphylococcus caprae. Septic joint is classified in ICD-10-CM to category M00, Pyogenic arthritis. Is it appropriate to report a code from category M00 to capture an infection in a prosthetic joint?
