April 2023 pages 18-19 Coding Brief: New Code for TPMT Enzyme-activity Test For the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) 2023 code set, a new code (84433) was established within the Chemistry subsection of the Pathology and Laboratory section to describe enzyme-activity testing for thiopurine S-methyltransferase (TPMT). Prior to 2023, no specific code was available to describe this enzyme-activity test; therefore, the non-specific enzyme-activity procedure code 82657 was reported.
