My physician performs internal cardioversion. There is a code specific to external cardioversion, however I do not see a code for when cardioversion is performed internally. What code would I report?

From a CPT coding perspective, there is not a current CPT code that accurately describes internal cardioversion. Therefore, in the instance wherein internal cardioversion is performed, code 93799, Unlisted cardiovascular service or procedure, would be reported. A copy of the procedure performed should be included when submitting to the third-party payor.
