Article Overview

This premium article covers coding updates for abnormal cervical and vaginal cytology smear findings and related HPV testing concepts. It is intended for coders, billers, clinical documentation staff, and compliance teams who need to understand how the affected diagnosis categories were revised and what related exclusions and additional-code notes were added. The article focuses on the scope of the changes, the affected code groups, and the documentation concepts tied to cervical versus vaginal findings.

Why This Topic Matters

Accurate diagnosis coding for Pap smear and HPV-related findings depends on recognizing the revised cervical and vaginal categories and their associated reporting distinctions. This article helps users identify which code groups were updated and what related coding references accompany those changes.

Article Sections

  1. Cervical abnormal cytology updates

Covers the revision of the cervical abnormal cytology category and the related coding changes introduced for cervical findings. It also notes the associated exclusion references and documentation concepts tied to sample adequacy.

  2. Vaginal abnormal cytology updates
