Effective October 1, 2010 a new code 38.97, Central venous catheter placement with guidance, has been created to describe central venous catheter placement under electrocardiographic, fluoroscopy, and ultrasound guidance. This type of indwelling vascular catheter is inserted with the use of an electrocardiogram as well as fluoroscopy and ultrasound to ensure the proper positioning of the catheter.
