New CPT Codes for COVID-19 vaccines

The American Medical Association (AMA) has approved new CPT Category I codes for reporting Sars-CoV-2 vaccines. The new bivalent COVID-19 vaccines are different from the primary vaccine series and the previously available booster doses, which were monovalent and only targeted the original Sars-CoV-2 virus. The new bivalent vaccines contain an element of the original strain of Sars-CoV-2 but also contain elements of the omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5 to protect better against newer circulating virus strains.
