New CPT vaccine coding for COVID-19

The American Medical Association (AMA) in collaboration with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has developed a distinct coding structure that includes six new codes that will begin to capture vaccine administration coding for COVID-19 vaccine products. The new codes will become effective once the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) grants Emergency Use Authorization or approval for the new vaccines.The coding structure was developed to track the unique individual vaccine products and multiple dose administration when required.
