Automatic Implantable Cardioverter (AICD)/Defibrillator Check

Effective October 1, 2004, a new code has been created to uniquely identify a check of the AICD device. Prior to this change, an AICD check was reported with code 89.59, Other nonoperative cardiac and vascular measurements. The bedside check of an AICD device is not the same as a cardiac electrophysiologic stimulation and recording study, which is performed on a patient’s heart.
