Streptococcus Carrier Status

Prior to October 1, 1998, Streptococcus carrier status was reported under code V02.5, Carrier or suspected carrier of infectious diseases, Other specified bacterial diseases. Code V02.5 has been expanded to uniquely identify Group B Streptococcus carrier status and Streptococcus carrier status. Group B streptococcus in the vaginal canal can complicate the delivery of a fetus, so pregnant women with this carrier status are considered to have high-risk pregnancies, even though there is no sign of an infection and no symptoms may be present.
