![]() ICD-10 to ICD-9 Reimbursement MappingsAugust 30, 2011 We here at FindACode are always looking for more and better information to help you do your coding better. This time, we've added Reimbursement Mappings between ICD-10 and ICD-9. Reimbursement Mappings (RMs) are similar to General Equivalence Mappings (GEMs), and help to establish the mapping of ICD-9 codes to ICD-10 codes. In short, the GEMs will show ALL the possible codes or code combinations in ICD-10 that have the same or similar meaning to the code you're familiar with in ICD-9; but in the end you'll have to choose one ICD-10 code to put on that form. While payers are still adjusting to ICD-10, they will translate it back into an ICD-9 code so they can still pay you with the amounts they're familiar with. This is where the RMs come in they designate which ICD-9 code will be used for reimbursement purposes, given the ICD-10 code you put on the form. The Reimbursement Mappings have been added to the "ICD-9 to ICD-10 Cross-A-Code™ (GEMs & RMs)" section of the ICD-9 and ICD-10 code pages. We hope this will help you in the transition to ICD-10! Happy Coding! share
