Meet Dr. Joseph Nichols at PMI's 2016 Conference

July 26, 2016
Get to know one of the most knowledgeable, approachable, and well respected experts in ICD-10 and health information technology at PMI’s Conference this November.

Dr. Nichols will provide a refreshing outlook on the latest in healthcare from a clinician’s point of view. As PMI’s Keynote presenter, he will be conducting two very important topics:

1. Making the Case for Clinician Engagement - From ICD-10 to MIPS and MACRA:

From ICD-10 to MIPS and MACRA, provider engagement is critical to the success of these major transitions and an integral aspect of the practice’s overall health and viability. Gain insight from the clinician’s perspective and begin to communicate more effectively with your providers, in their own language.  If you are still struggling to address and prevent documentation gaps in your practice, understand their resistance. Dr. Nichols will address the clinicians’ concerns and identify the incentives and values most meaningful to them. Learn to successfully encourage your clinicians to produce the quality detailed documentation required by ICD-10-CM and offer solutions that will assist your practice as it prepares to become a data driven practice under the next transition to MIPs and APMs under MACRA.

2. Specificity Traps - Getting the Right Level of Detail:

ICD-10 is all about specificity – both in documentation and code choice, but navigating the details can be confusing. Is using an “unspecified” code ever the right choice? Are 3-character codes less specified than 7-character codes? Does specificity require more than one code? Is “not elsewhere classified” unspecified? Does specificity feel like a trap? In this session Dr. Nichols provides clarity gained from studying coding patterns. He will highlight code examples that illustrate the key concepts necessary to leave confusion behind and understand the parameters for using “unspecified” codes.

With all of the transitions happening in health care billing and compliance, you can’t afford to let this year’s conference pass you by!

I’ve provided a link to his White Paper on “Episodes” below. I encourage you to read through it to see what he has to say about healthcare payment and how it will affect your practice in the future. click here
