Plan of Care Ordering and Referring: Changes in Billing for Medicare

June 26, 2014

Medicare has announced changes for home health agencies (HHS). HHS’s are required to report additional information on all claims with date of service that begins on or after July, 01, 2014.  The edits that are currently applicable to the attending physician is now applied to any provider signing the Plan of Care (POC).

Providers are now required to report the National Provider Identifier (NPI) and the name of both the physician who certifies the patient's eligibility for home health services and the physician who signs the home health plan of care (POC).  This also includes certifying physicians, who certify/re-certify a patient's eligibility to receive services under the Medicare home health benefit, as reported on Home Health Agency (HHA) claims.
