Proposed EHR Changes

On May 20, 2014, CMS announced a proposed rule intended to help providers make use of Certified EHR Technology (CERT). The proposed rule would allow providers reporting the 2014 period for Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive programs to use EHRs that have been certified under the 2011 Edition, a combination of the 2011 and 2014 Editions, or the 2014 Edition.

In addition to the new flexibility of reporting standards, this proposed rule also extends stage 2 of meaningful use through 2016.

Keep in mind that this is still only a proposed rule, so watch for further announcements by CMS regarding a final rule.
