April 2009 pages 5-6 Coding Communication:Endothelial Keratoplasty (Corneal Transplant) Endothelial keratoplasty (code 65756) is a surgical method of repairing diseased corneas that previously would have required a full thickness corneal transplant (also called penetrating keratoplasty [codes 65730, 65750, and 65755]). Endothelial keratoplasty maintains the structural integrity of the eye by retaining healthy portions of the patient's cornea, while removing only Descemet's membrane and the dysfunctional corneal endothelium. Endothelial keratoplasty provides rapid visual recovery with minimal refractive change. This procedure is also referred to as Descemet's stripping with endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK).
