June 2011 pages 8-10 Esophagogastric Fundoplasty Esophagogastric fundoplasty (sometimes referred to as Nissen, Belsey, Toupet, or Dor fundoplication) is a surgery that creates a new junction or valve between the esophagus and the stomach by wrapping the uppermost portion of the stomach (the fundus) around the lower end of the esophagus. It is usually performed either when medical therapy for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) has failed or as one of the key components of repair of paraesophageal hiatal hernia.
