January 2013 pages 13-14 Coding Clarification: Introduction/Injection of Anesthetic Agent (Nerve Block), Diagnostic or Therapeutic (64450) CPT code 64450 is utilized for the diagnostic or therapeutic introduction/injection of an anesthetic agent in a peripheral nerve or branch. It is not appropriate to report code 64450, if the injection serves to provide anesthesia for a surgical procedure.
